BAL Nuni Omot: Basketball Africa League MVP gong means a lot to South Sudan

Omot, who joined Al Ahly for Season Three of the BAL, said that his individual achievement will go a long way toward opening doors for his other South Sudanese players. Nuni Omot of South Sudan was crowned Basketball Africa League MVP after helping Egypt's Al Ahly overcome Senegal's AS Douanes in the final on Saturday. Al Ahly broke away in the second half to take control of the game and become Egypt's second champion. The inaugural edition was won by Zamalek. Omot was a key member of the Al Ahly rotation, scoring 22 points, grabbing four rebounds, and dishing out two assists in front of a packed BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda.The forward, who has been with Al Ahly since for Season Three of the BAL, revealed that his individual success will go a long way in presenting opportunities to his fellow players from South Sudan. "It means a lot, honestly," Omot told the press after Saturday's final. "For me, with how much talent is in South Sudan, our guys don't get the opportunity or credit that they should get," he added. Omot averaged 18.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 28 minutes the entire competition.
