Olatoye and Onyekwere set new personal bests to kick off the outdoor season

Sade Olatoye, the African Champion, and Chioma Onyekwere, the Commonwealth Champion, both delivered outstanding performances to kick off their 2023 outdoor season. Sade Olatoye and Chioma Onyekwere, Nigeria's best female throwers, began their outdoor season with impressive performances on Friday. Olatoye competed at the MSU Spartan Invitational, where she set a new Season Best (SB) mark in the women's Hammer throw with a throw of 69.15m. The mark is close to her Personal Best (PB) of 69.89m set in 2021, which bodes well for the rest of the year as she prepares to compete in the World Championships in Budapest. Her time is a new Nigerian Record (NR), putting her in fifth place in world history. Olatoye has now assumed the same form outside, and she is arguably in the best shape of her life. As a result, Onyekwere competed in the Discus event at the Florida Relays, finishing with an SB of 55.88m. The Commonwealth champion will work on improving this mark in her upcoming meets as she prepares for the World Championships, in which she has an automatic qualification as the reigning African champion.
