African Games: Ghana's first day of athletics sees Nigerian track stars shine

Highlights of the competitors from Team Nigeria's performance on the first day of the African Games in Ghana. Representatives from Team Nigeria were the center of attention on Day 1 of the athletics competition at the ongoing 13th African Games in Ghana, where they looked fantastic.Usheoritse Itsekiri, Consider Ekanem, and Israel Okon Sunday qualified for the men's 100-meter semifinals with ease as the day's first events got underway.To get things started for Nigerian competitors that day, Olayinka Olajide, Justina Eyakpobeyan, and Blessing Ogundiran performed the same in the women's division. Chidi Okezie secured his semifinal spot in the men's 400m by running the second fastest time overall in 45.89 seconds, a stellar season's best. Dubem Nwachukwu had to settle for second place in his heat in 46.29s to make it through, while Sikiru Adeyemi's time of 46.72s was also enough to make the semifinal. The women's division saw even more amazing results: Brittany Ogunmokun placed third in 53.53 seconds, Esther Okon took second in 53.17 seconds, and Esther Joseph won her heat with a scorching personal best of 51.81 seconds. All three advanced to the semifinals. Following their respective semifinal victories, Itsekiri and Ekanem will advance to the 100-meter final, while Olajide and Eyakpobeyan will do the same in the women's division. Coziness James achieved an identical Personal Best time of 2:05.11 to qualify for the women's 800m final. After finishing fourth in her heat, James qualified for her first-ever international final. The foursome of Emmanuel Ojeli, Patience Okon-George, Samson Nathaniel, and Omolara Ogunmankinju, however, was the day's high point for Team Nigeria as they advanced to the final by setting a season's best and first games record of 3:15.23.
