How Devynne Charlton invoked the World Record for 60-meter hurdles

At the Millrose Games, Devynne Charlton became the first athlete from the Bahamas to hold a World Record in athletics. This is the reason she ran the record and the way she shouted it into being. Last weekend, Devynne Charlton stole the show as she set a new world record (WR) in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2024 Millrose Games with a time of 7.67 seconds. The Bahamian record holder breezed through the obstacles and finished in a time that will smash Susanna Kallur's record of 7.68 seconds, set in 2008, as well as her previous lifetime best of 7.75 seconds.Speaking after the race in an interview with Citius Mag, the Commonwealth silver medallist in the women's 100m Hurdles revealed how she spoke her 60m WR into existence. “I think at the World Championships, when I finished 4th place just outside of a medal, it was a really disappointing feeling. One of the first things I said to my coach was, ‘Now I have to break the world record indoor.”
