After failing to make the final, world 100-meter champion Fred Kerley will not be defending his title in Budapest. Fred Kerley, the current World Champion, will not be defending his title in Budapest after failing to qualify for the men's 100-meter final of the present World Championships. The American speedster finished third in his semifinal race with a time of 10.01 seconds, but that wasn't good enough to get him into the final.Oblique Seville, a teenage Jamaican, won the event in 9.90 seconds, ahead of Letsile Tebogo, a Botswanan, in 9.98 seconds. Both athletes earned automatic spots in the finals. It's a sad ending for Kerley, who was highly rated as a top favourite to win a second consecutive gold medal in the event, having bragged and had exchange of words with Olympic Champion Marcell Jacobs (also didn't make the final) throughout the season about being the best.
