West African folklore continues to win accolades and receive favorable reviews. After a successful run at Sundance in January, CJ "Fiery" Obasi's "Mami Wata" made its way to the Pan-African Film & TV Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO) for its African premiere. Here, the black and white drama extended its trophy-winning streak by winning three honors at the festival with the subject "African Film and Culture of Peace." The PRIX DE LA CRITIQUE was awarded to Mami Wata. Pauline S. Vieyra accepted the African Critics Award at the Special Awards Gala.
