Edoardo Bove scored the game's only goal as Jose Mourinho's AS Roma defeated Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday evening in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final showdown. Roma needed to win the game in order to have a realistic chance of qualifying for the Champions League the following season. Mourinho's men have already completed half of the task ahead of the return leg in Germany the following week.
