Lampard will return as Chelsea's interim manager.

According to reports on Wednesday, Frank Lampard is set to return to Chelsea as an interim manager for a second time until the end of the season. Lampard, who was fired by Everton earlier this season, was fired by Chelsea in 2021 after only 18 months in charge. According to Sky Sports and The Athletic, the club and Lampard are in advanced talks, with the former England international expected to be installed in time for Saturday's trip to Wolves. Chelsea fired Graham Potter on Sunday, despite spending over £500 million ($623 million) on new players in their first season under new ownership. They are, however, through to the Champions League quarter-finals and will travel to defending champions Real Madrid for the first leg of their last-eight tie in seven days. Lampard was present for Chelsea's 0-0 draw with Liverpool at home on Tuesday and is the man the club's American owners have turned to in the hope of inspiring a short-term turnaround. Lampard spent 13 years at Chelsea, winning three Premier League titles, the Champions League, and remaining the club's all-time leading goalscorer.
