Polaris Bank, union meeting on sack of workers ends in deadlock
The union's leader stated that a Congress would be held to debate the union's future course of action.The meeting between the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees (NUBIFIE) and Polaris Bank management regarding the sacking of its members went inconclusively, according to NUBIFIE.Mohammed Sheikh, the Secretary-General of NUBIFIE, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos that the conference ended with nothing solid to grasp on to. According to NAN, the union picketed the bank's flagship office in Victoria Island, Lagos State, on June 6, 2023, over alleged violations of workers' rights. The union's secretary-general accused the bank's management of firing employees without following the proper procedures needed by labor.
