Denmark will support Nigeria's energy transition plan
The Danish ambassador to Nigeria, Sune Krogstrup, indicated his country's desire to enhance investment and support Nigeria's efforts to expand its renewable energy business.The envoy made the pledge during an interview in the country's capital, Abuja. He stated that Denmark, a significant global leader in the industry, was willing to assist Nigeria's goal of shifting to green energy. Krogstrup underlined the importance of having all hands on deck to minimize emissions, lamenting the growing impact of greenhouse gas emissions. "In terms of green technology and know-how aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions," he stated, "Denmark has a lot to offer Nigeria." According to NAN, Yemi Osinbajo, a former vice president, announced Nigeria's ETP in August 2022 with the goal of providing a roadmap for attaining carbon neutrality by 2060, eradicating energy poverty, and promoting economic growth. “I think that the energy sector is key in this regard. Bold and ambitious steps need to be taken from the Nigerian side if you are to reach the very ambitious targets. And of course, Denmark, along with a number of other international partners are ready to support Nigeria on that journey in the form of investments, cooperation and collaboration, government to government,” the ambassador stated. In order to reduce climate change and obtain cleaner energy, the ambassador emphasized the necessity of a sustainable energy transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy. He reaffirmed that Denmark will work closely with Nigeria going forward, especially in areas of shared interest. NAN
