Isabel Dos Santos, Africa's richest lady, is embroiled in yet another financial scandal

The millionaire daughter of Angola's former president, Isabel dos Santos, can directly join a $400 million lawsuit launched by Angolan telecoms carrier Unitel against a company she controls, the High Court of England said on Thursday.Unitel sued dos Santos' Dutch firm Unitel International Holdings (UIH) in 2020 for loans made in 2012 and 2013 when dos Santos was a director of Unitel to facilitate UIH's acquisition of telecom company shares. The loans were not returned, according to Unitel's attorneys, and a total of about $395 million plus interest is still owing. Despite their similar names, the two companies are unaffiliated, and dos Santos, who owns UIH, resigned as a director of Unitel in 2020. Dos Santos is the world's first female millionaire, whose father Jose Eduardo dos Santos ruled Angola for 38 years until 2017, had requested to be personally included in Unitel's lawsuit against UIH. Her assets in Angola worth almost $1 billion were confiscated last year, and additional properties connected to her have been taken in Portugal. Dos Santos, who purports to reside in Dubai, has categorically refuted all accusations against her, and her attorneys have called them a "political conspiracy."
