Kenya's president has announced the launch of a water project that will provide water to one million Kenyans

Kenya's government and the World Bank have started work on a Sh20 billion dam project in Kwale. The Mwache Multipurpose Dam project, when completed, will reduce water demand in the Coast area by 54.7%, according to the Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation. The dam would provide drinking water to over one million people in Mombasa, Kwale, and Kilifi counties, as well as aid agricultural activity in the surrounding areas. The project was supposed to begin in November 2021, but it was postponed due to land disputes and compensation concerns. The dam, according to President William Ruto, will provide 186,000 cubic meters of water per day to Kwale and Mombasa counties. "The dam will be critical in improving water security, particularly during times of drought and water scarcity the president disclosed.
