CITN promotes tax culture in schools

The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria has rewarded students who excelled in its quiz competition as part of its efforts to instill a tax culture in young people and increase government revenue. The CITN awarded various prizes to secondary school students who excelled at the grand finale of the Lagos State all secondary schools tax quiz competition program, which was sponsored by an institute member, Pro Ezekiel Williams, in Lagos. The quiz's winner received N300,000 and a full scholarship for the first year of university. The first and second place finishers received N200,000 and N100,000, respectively. Other top competitors received consolation prizes. "We actually created this program in order to ensure that the issue of taxation is brought to the level of the classroom, and in order to make this happen, we have decided that we are not waiting until they get to tertiary levels, we should start dealing with it at secondary level," said CITN President Chief Adesina Adedayo.
