Over 50% of poultry farmers report losses and discontinue operations

The punitive economic measures that are currently ailing Nigerian business have a negative impact on the country's poultry sector.Nigerian poultry producers have bemoaned the fact that more than half of their farms have closed as a result of the numerous financial difficulties the industry faces. In an interview in Lagos, Mojeed Iyiola, the Chairman of the Poultry Association of Nigeria, PAN, Lagos State chapter, disclosed this.He claims that because there aren't many poultry farmers in the area, the ones that are still in operation can't keep up with the increasing demand from clients for poultry products. Due to challenges facing the industry, the majority of chicken farms in the nation shuttered their doors last year. “We are currently unable to meet up the demands of eggs due to the shortage of poultry farms. Presently, we have very low supply of eggs with growing demands. “This is because nothing less than 50% of poultry farms around the country have shut down,” Iyiola said.
