The FG eliminates the 5% tax on calls and data

The government stated that this was in accordance with the recommendations of a committee formed to review the implementation of excise duty in the telecom sector, the Presidential Review Committee on Excise Duty in the Digital Economy Sector. Isa Pantami, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, announced this at a press conference on Tuesday. Pantami, the committee's chairman, stated, "I am delighted to report to you that President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has approved the exemption of the digital economy sector from the 5% excise duty to be paid, due to the strength of the Committee's argument that additional burden on the telecom sector will increase the sufferings of Nigerians and that other sectors that are not contributing as much to the economy should be challenged to do more and pay the 5% excise duty."
