Dangote Refinery will begin operations after 950,000 barrels of oil arrive

The Dangote Refinery may cut petroleum imports into the continent by 36 percent. After months of rumors regarding the $20 billion Dangote Refinery's operation, the refinery has finally received its first supply of crude. The project has faced delays since the refinery's official opening in May due to a shortage of oil, delaying the originally projected gasoline production date of August 2023. The story has changed and a significant turning point in Nigeria's petroleum industry has been reached with the berthing of a ship carrying 950,000 barrels of Nigerian Agbami oil at Dangote's offshore crude receiving port in Lekki. The Chairman of Dangote Industries, Aliko Dangote in an earlier interview with The Financial Times had stated that the refinery would commence operations in December 2023 with a production target of 350,000 barrels per day.
