FCT residents decry increase in cooking gas price, economist blames FX rate

In April, May, and June, the average cost of cooking gas decreased to ?4,642.27, ?4,360.69, and ?4,068.26 for 5 kg, respectively.On Sunday, a large number of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) citizens protested against the ongoing rise in cooking gas prices. They claim that cooking gas is now out of the ordinary man's reach.According to the National Bureau of Statistics' (NBS) most recent Cooking Gas Price report, the average cost of five kilograms of cooking gas climbed from N4,115.32 in August 2023 to N4,189.96 in September 2023, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). 12.5 kg of cooking gas saw an average retail price increase of 0.35 percent from N9,162.11 in July 2023 to N9,194.41 in August 2023.
