As Kenya increases visa-free travel opportunities, the DRC is made to feel welcome in the East African bloc

A message from Nairobi on Friday stated that people from the Democratic Republic of the Congo can now visit Kenya without a visa.Kenya asserts that the new regulation is a part of continuing legislative modifications aimed to speed up the DRC's admission to the East African Community. Last Monday, a notice informing all Kenyan diplomatic missions abroad and the regional administration chiefs of Kenya of the impending change in policy was distributed. According to a report from the Eastern African journal The East African, it stated that the visa waiver would take effect on September 1. “The government of Kenya has removed the Democratic Republic of Congo from Category 2 to Category 1 of the visa regulations in compliance with the East Africa Community Regulations of free movement of persons within the member states,” said the circular dated August 25. “In this regard, Kenya has waived visa requirements for all nationals of the Democratic Republic of Congo effective September 1, 2023,” the circular adds.
