Air passenger traffic increased by 8 percent to 16.2 million in 2022 – NCAA

According to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), from 15 million passengers in 2021 to 16.2 million in 2022, there was an eight percent growth in air passenger traffic in Nigeria. Air travel demand is off to a very robust start in 2023, according to IATA Director General Willie Walsh, who was responding to the increased passenger traffic in global aviation. The quick lifting of COVID-19 travel restrictions for Chinese nationals and foreigners augurs well for the industry's ongoing robust epidemic recovery throughout the year. Importantly, we have not observed a decline in travel demand despite the numerous economic and geopolitical worries of the day. NCAA also disclosed that in 2021, there were 1.1 million outbound passengers, a rise of 54.7 percent from the 717,261 passengers in 2020. 1.6 million passengers traveled internationally on inbound flights in 2022, a 45.5 percent increase from 1.1 million in 2021.
