Garri vendors blame naira scarcity for price hike

According to a study by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in several local shops, the price of garri paint has increased from N800 in December to as much as N1,600 today. Moreover, a bag now costs N18,500 as opposed to N13,500 in January. Judith Amen, a food vendor in Amuwo Odofin, claimed that the farmers raised prices because they do not believe in transfers and prefer to get paid for their goods. "The cash shortage is mostly to blame for the increase in garri costs. "As a result of the farmers' rejection of transfers, I currently only have one bag in my store. Due to the fact that the majority of them lack bank accounts and cannot access the funds, they do not even want to hear about transfers.
