Dino Melaye triumphs in the Kogi PDP governorship primary

Dino won the election to lead the party despite fierce opposition from other candidates. Dino Melaye, a senator who served Kogi West Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly, has won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nomination for governor of Kogi State. After a fiercely contested election on Sunday, April 16, 2023, Melaye was declared the winner. The former congressman triumphed over rival candidates Kingsley Idoko and Yomi Awoniyi, a former deputy governor of Kogi State. In the election on November 11, 2023, he will now compete against candidates such as Alhaji Ahmed Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Barrister Adejo Okeme of the Labour Party, among others. Reacting to the development, his colleague in the 8th Senate, Senator Ben Bruce, sent an early congratulatory message to Dino on Sunday evening. Taking to his Twitter page, Bruce said, "Congratulations, my good friend and brother, @_dinomelaye. Your triumphant victory in the Kogi State PDP governorship primaries is a testament to your unwavering dedication and commitment to the people." Dino recorded a total of 317 votes to leave Idoko in second place with a total of 116 votes.
