Sanwo-Olu will end the 50% discount on Lagos bus fares on April 1

The Lagos State Government has announced that the existing 50% discount on state-owned bus fares will no longer be available beginning April 1, 2023. This was stated in a statement issued by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, in which the government stated that fares for state-owned buses would be restored to their original levels as of that date. Remember that Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced a 50% reduction in all state-owned transportation services in early February as a measure to cushion the impact of the state's biting naira and fuel scarcity on residents. However, a statement issued by LAMATA on Tuesday announced the policy's reversal, adding that it will take effect on the first of next month. "With effect from Saturday, April 1, bus fare on all regulated buses — BRT, standard, and FLM — shall revert to 100% rate," according to the statement.
