Nigeria receives $134 million from the AfDB to farm soybeans, rice, maize, and cassava

Developed to act as a regional training hub for the West and Central Africa sub-regions, CDA is a World Bank-supported institution.In order to increase food production, Nigeria is receiving assistance from the African Development Bank (AfDB) for the cultivation of rice, maize, cassava, and soybeans.After visiting the Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA) at Bayero University in Kano on Saturday, the bank's president, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, announced that the institution is contributing $134 million to this endeavor. Adesina announced to reporters that the bank will help Nigeria grow 300,000 hectares of soybeans, 150,000 hectares of cassava, and 300,000 hectares of rice and maize each in 2024.The AfDB is helping Nigeria in March so that it can plant 150,000 hectares of maize and 118,000 hectares of heat-tolerant wheat types.
