Ohanaeze vows to challenge the FG for awarding five ministry positions to Southeast In terms of ministerial nominations, Ohanaeze claimed that the Federal Government had treated the Southeast unfairly. The head of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the highest socio-cultural organization in the Igbo people, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has vowed to take the Federal Government to court over claims of unfairness in the appointments of ministers made by President Bola Tinubu. On Wednesday, October 25, 2023, Iwuanyanwu made this announcement during a news conference in Owerri, the capital of Imo State. On August 21, 2023, Tinubu's cabinet was sworn in, and only five members came from the Southeast: Nkiruka Onyejeocha, the Minister of State for Labor and Employment (Imo State); Uju Kennedy, the Minister of Women Affairs (Anambra); Doris Anite, the Minister of Trade and Investment (Abia); and Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology (Enugu) and Minister of Works, Dave Umahi (Ebonyi). Meanwhile, the Ohanaeze leader argued that the Tinubu government treated the Southeast zone unfairly in the distribution of ministerial slots, given that other zones had more representatives in the Federal Executive Council. “It is unfair for the President to give the southeast only five slots for ministerial appointments while other zones boast of 10 ministers,” he said.
