Gunmen assault Yahaya Bello's truck, but he manages to avoid being killed

The gunmen that attacked Bello's convoy, according to the Kogi state government, were dressed in military garb.On the evening of Sunday, October 22, 2023, gunmen ambushed the vehicle carrying Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello a few kilometers outside of Abuja in an apparent attempt to kill him.According to a statement made Sunday night by the state's commissioner for information and communication, Kingsley Fanwo, the event happened as the governor was traveling from Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State, to a formal engagement.Anwo claimed that the assailants ambushed Bello's convoy and began intermittently shooting at his car while they were dressed in military attire. “The Kogi State Government wishes to inform the general public that there was an assassination attempt on the Governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, CON, a few kilometres away from Abuja, on his way to an official engagement from Lokoka. The attack occurred at about 4pm on Sunday, October 22, 2023. “The attackers who were dressed in military uniforms waylaid the Governor’s convoy and started shooting sporadically at his vehicle and other vehicles in the convoy,” the statement partly read.
