President's authority to nominate INEC chairman should be removed. - Jega

The Electoral Act has to be amended further, according to the former INEC chairman, to remove unclear language and other contentious clauses.Prof. Attahiru Jega, a former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has suggested that the presidents should lose their constitutional authority to name the chairman and National Commissioners of the electoral body.Jega proposed amending the 2022 Electoral Act to accomplish this and other necessary improvements to the country's electoral process. The former INEC chairman emphasized the need for more revisions to remove ambiguities, explain, and strengthen parts of the electoral act's provisions, even though he claimed that the operating version of the act is the best in Nigeria's history.
