Senate requests that the FG declare a "State of Emergency" in Nigeria due to drug abuse

According to the UN, between the ages of 15 and 64, 14.3 million Nigerians take drugs. The Federal Government has been urged by the Senate to declare a State of Emergency over illegal drugs and drug usage in Nigeria.Following today's plenary session, a motion titled "Urgent need to address the menace of drug abuse in Nigeria" was unanimously adopted. Senator Babangida Hussain (APC - Jigawa) introduced the resolution and voiced his deep worry for the nation's unparalleled degree of drug misuse. Senator Hussain emphasized the seriousness of the situation by pointing out that Nigeria had changed from being a transit country in the 1990s to a country where drug addiction and trafficking were pervasive.
