The FG provides applicants with a 2-week window for passport issue

The minister emphasized that the Federal Government has been able to transfer the rights of Nigerians to them as a result of that new development.Nigerians have received assurances from the Federal Government that new passports will now be issued within two weeks of the application date.The administration claimed that by taking this action, the time when Nigerians had to wait numerous months before receiving their passports will be consigned to history. On Wednesday, October 4, 2023, while briefing reporters about his earlier directive to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to clear the backlog of more than 204,000 passport applications, Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made the disclosure. Tunji-Ojo apologised to Nigerians over the failure of the NIS to clear the backlogs within the stipulated two-week deadline he gave.
