The Taraba government approves a medical benefit of $50,000 for teaching corps members

In response to an increase in enrollment following the implementation of free education, the Taraba administration decided to recruit corps members to educational institutions.The governor of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas, has authorized a one-time payment of 50,000 Naira as a medical allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) volunteers working in the state's schools.The governor additionally provided the corps members with an additional monthly payment of 10,000 and a termly housing allowance of 25,000. The state's Commissioner for Information and Reorientation, Zainab Usman Jalingo, made the generous cash announcement in a statement on Sunday, September 24, 2023. The Taraba government claims that the measures became necessary as a result of a recent spike in school enrollment brought on by Kefas' pronouncement of free basic and secondary education.
