On Monday, new ministers will be sworn in

Ten days after the Senate approved their appointment, the President gave the ministerial nominees their portfolios. At the State House Conference Centre, Aso Villa, Abuja, on August 21, 2023, President Bola Tinubu will administer the oath of office to the newly appointed ministers after they have been given their respective portfolios. On Wednesday, August 16, 2023, a statement from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, said this. Ten days after the Senate approved their appointment, the President gave the ministerial nominees their portfolios. In the statement signed by Willie Bassey, Director, Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Akume said, “Honourable Ministers to be sworn-in are expected to come with two guests each. All Honourable Ministers and invited guests are to be seated by 9:00am,” Remember that in July, the President sent a list of 48 nominations for ministerial positions to the Senate for consideration and approval. The senators approved 45 of the nominees, leaving the other three, including the former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, to await confirmation. El-Rufai will no longer be a part of Tinubu's cabinet, it appears, as Bayo Adelabu from Oyo State has been given the responsibility for the ministry El-Rufai was tasked with running. El-Rufai made a suggestion that the President wanted him to oversee the Ministry of Power during his screening. However, the Senate postponed the confirmation of his nomination due to security clearance after his screening. Following this event, El-Rufai recommended to the President another ministerial nominee from Kaduna. Currently, the former Governor of Kaduna State is out of the country to further his education and from all indications, he appears to have given up the plan to serve as a minister of power under President Tinubu.
