The NLC strike will start on Wednesday as police increase security

To protect public safety, the police have taken precautions. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has reaffirmed its steadfast determination to stage a national demonstration in protest of the recent increase in the price of gasoline at the pump as well as other complaints. The NLC has dismissed speculations that the demonstration would be called off, calling them the work of "fifth columnists" out to undercut the demands of the populace. NLC President Joe Ajaero stated that the meeting with the Federal Government did not change their course of action in a statement issued late on Tuesday, August 01, 2023. We recently left a meeting with the Federal Government in which we tried to persuade them to pay attention to the needs of the people, and we want to let all Nigerians know about it."The outcome of this meeting earlier today has, however, not changed anything or the course which we have set for ourselves tomorrow as custodians of the interests and desires of Nigerian workers and people," he asserted. The NLC president urged Nigerians to ignore the efforts of "fifth columnists" and urged everyone to unite across the nation to give voice to their collective resolve.
