The DSS condemns the confrontation with jail officials over Emefiele and requests an investigation

The DSS denounced the brawl between its troops and NCoS authorities over Emefiele's custody.The Department of State Service (DSS) has strongly denounced the "unfortunate" incident involving its employees and Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) personnel at the Federal High Court in Lagos.On Tuesday, July 25, 2023, DSS agents and jail officials clashed on the court grounds over the custody of the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele. Emefiele had been brought to court by the DSS for his arraignment on a two-count charge of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. However, a fisticuff ensued between the two federal government agencies after Justice Nicholas Oweibo admitted Emefiele to bail in the sum of ₦20m and ordered his remand at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions.
