The Alaba International Market was bulldozed to preserve lives, according to the Lagos government
Chris Maduka, Secretary of the seven-man Technical Committee on Alaba International Demolition, praised the government's efforts to clean up the market.According to the Lagos State Government, the recent demolition of troubled buildings in Alaba International Market in Ojo Local Council was not done as a witch hunt or to acquire the land, but rather to protect lives. This was stated by Gbolahan Oki, General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LABSCA), on Saturday during an on-the-spot evaluation of the demolition site. Oki went to the market with his colleague in the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA), Kehinde Osinaike, and the seven-man committee formed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the aftermath of the demolition. Oluwole Sotire, their parent's Permanent Secretary, led them on the journey.
