NAPTIP identifies fresh form of human trafficking in FCT

According to the National Agency for the Prevention of Trafficking in People (NAPTIP), minors are being used as human trafficking victims in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This information is provided in a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja by Mr. Vincent Adekoye, the agency's press officer. According to Adekoye's citation of NAPTIP Director-General Prof. Fatima Waziri-Azi, during a normal undercover operation by agents of the agency's Rapid Response Unit near the corridors connecting Abuja and Nyanya, the agents intercepted syndicates. She claimed that three youngsters who were purportedly being rented out by their moms to human traffickers to beg for alms at one of the busiest locations in the Nyanya area for N3,000 per day each were quickly rescued by the operatives. She issued a warning that everyone involved, including parents who distributed their children for dubious reasons, will be tracked down and charged.
