557,626 candidates admitted into tertiary institutions - JAMB

When asked why there were gaps in admission openings and why candidates were not admitted, Oloyede blamed rigidity in program selection and a mismatch between demand and supply.Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), says 557,626 students out of 1.8 million applications were admitted into tertiary institutions across the country in the 2022 admission processes.Oloyede stated this on Saturday at the 2023 Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions in Abuja. According to Oloyede, the 2022 admissions process is still underway due to opportunities granted to some important stakeholders in the sector to conduct admissions. The registrar, who refuted public perceptions that admissions were granted by JAMB, stated that admission was contingent on students meeting the five o'level standards, while the UTME was just used for screening.
