Since 1999, Nuhu Ribadu has been Nigeria's first NSA with a non-military experience

Ribadu is the third former cop to be appointed to the job.President Bola Tinubu appointed Nuhu Ribadu as National Security Adviser on Monday, the first non-military appointment since the return to democratic rule in 1999.The announcement by the Office of the Secretary of the Government of the Federal (OSGF), signed by Willie Bassey, Director of Information, put to rest speculation that the president may consider a non-military candidate for the job. Ribadu, the first head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), will be the third retired police officer to be appointed to the role, following the late Gambo Jimeta and Ismaila Gwarzo. The new NSA, born on November 21, 1960, was an intelligence police operative who retired as Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).
