Gunmen assassinate INEC officials in Ebonyi and demand a ₦‎10m  ransom for the abducted wife

A tactical police unit is on the lookout for the offenders.A member of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ebonyi has been slain by gunmen suspected of being armed kidnappers.Emnanuel Igwe, an assistant electoral officer (AEO), was slain on Sunday evening while returning from Anambra state along the Ishiagu axis of the Ishiagu-Mpu Road. The hoodlums allegedly kidnapped his wife as well. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the occurrence on Monday in Abakaliki, saying that a tactical squad from the Command had been dispatched to conduct a manhunt for the perpetrators. "Yes, there was an attack in which one person was shot in the head through the windscreen and nothing was taken," she explained.
